Ficus Aurea (The Strangler)
Known as the Strangler Fig, this is a robust, fast-growing and aggressive species common in dry coast areas. F. Aurea is a master strangler, lodging its seed in a crotch or crevice, where it sprouts and grows, eventually enveloping its victim. The large, leathery leaves have yellow veins and petioles. The fruit is red and berry-like and is an important food for native pigeons.
